This cumin beef recipe can be used for skewers without the sauce mixture. Serve it together with the firm tofu. It is excellent and simple dinner dish.

Ingredients
- 500 g beef tenderloin (cut into pieces)
- 40 g onion about 1 pcs, cut into pieces
- 1 tbsp minced garlic
- 2 tbsp diced green onions
- 400 g firm tofu (cut into thick pieces)
Sauce mixture
- 1 tbsp Lao Gan Ma chili in oil (Optional)
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- ½ tsp chicken powder
- 400 ml water
- ½ tsp Chinese 5 spices powder
- 1 tsp cumin
Beef seasoning
- 1 tbsp light soy sauce
- 2 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp water
- ½ tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp oil
- 2 tsp cumin
- ½ tsp Chinese 5 spices powder
Starch mixture
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 4 tbsp water
Instructions
- Mix the baking soda with water. Add it with the reset of the seasoning into the beef and mix it well. Marinade for at least 30 mins
- Pat dry the tofu. Pan fry it in a pan with medium high heat until both side are golden (about 2-3 mins each side). Dish it up and put it aside
- Add 2 tsp of oil in the pan. Heat it with high heat. When the pan and hot is oil. Add in the beef and pan-fry until both side is golden. When it is about medium done, dish it up and put it aside.
- Heat the pan with medium high heat. Add in 1 tsp of oil. Add in the onion, green onion, and garlic. Stir fry them until fragrant.
- Once the onion is soft, add in the tofu and sauce mixture and mix it well. Turn the heat to medium low and simmer for 1-2 mins
- Add in the beef. Stir and add enough starch mixture until the sauce is thickened. Dish it up and serve it hot.
Notes
Other tips
1- The marinaded beef can be cooked like skewers without any sauce mixture.
2- You can use other spices to replace Chinese 5 species.
3- if you like_ cumin, you can sprinkle additional of 1/2 tsp of cumin
4- You can use any other chili oil as per your perference
